Your assignment, should you choose to accept it (spoiler: you have no choice) is to read through the PowerPoint for Chapter 23 (and preferably the chapter). This is the rough stuff when the Europeans start Imperialism with the added bonus of “racial science” (not science) and The Great Chain of Being and all other sorts of ideas that we, the enlightened beings of the 21st Century, know are hooey.

Please watch the following Crash Courses:

(We’ll hold the Art & Culture part of this until a Zoom chat. I’d like to try an art crawl with everyone)

After you guys have watched the Crash Courses, please read the following primary resource documents of the time.

Rudyard Kipling, The White Man’s Burden, 1899

Edward Morel, The Black Man’s Burden, 1903

When you’re all done, please complete The Great Chain of Being (you can do it in a word doc & upload to TurnItIn.com). If you have questions about anything, save them for the Zoom meeting Thursday. If you can’t attend, add them in the comments. The Kipling, well… it’s open to interpretation.

Please try to have this completed by the Zoom meeting if you can. If not, get it to me when you get a second. I’ll try to explain test stuff later on. Don’t forget that the AP Classroom has been unlocked for a while. Please work at your own pace on that.
